「六十余州名所図会」は嘉永６年（1853年）から安政3年（1856年）にかけて刊行された広重の晩年作で、大判竪絵69枚に目録1枚を加えた全70枚の揃物です。江戸と五畿七道の国のうち、68番目となる本作品は西海道の壱岐島を描いた、シリーズの数少ない雪景色のひとつです。夜中の暗い雪空、プルシアンブルーのグラデーションが際立って美しい海、そして明るく雪に覆われた丘とのコントラストがとても印象的な名作です。版元　越村屋平助　（越平）

The series “Views of Famous Places in the Sixty-Odd Provinces” (Rokujûyoshû meisho zue) was released by Hiroshige in his later years, and published by Koshimuraya Heisuke (Koshihei) from 1853 to 1856. It is a set of 70 prints, with 69 prints depicting Edo and 68 provinces, and an inventory. The landscape of Iki Province (Iki Island, actual Nagasaki prefecture in the Tsushima Strait) in Saikaidô, which is the 68th print, is one of the few snow scenes of the series. In this early impression with a cloud in bokashi, the contrast between the dark snowy sky at night, the beautiful Prussian blue gradation of the sea, and the bright snow-covered hills makes it a very impressive masterpiece.
