歌川国芳の「日光裏見滝」は、全８枚からなる無題の風景画シリーズのうちの１枚です。作風やサイン「一勇斎国芳」の特徴から推測して、国芳が１８４０年頃に下絵を描いた作品とされています。刊行年は定かではありませんが、死後の明治時代末期頃に刊行されたと言われています。

国芳がほとんど手掛けなかった風景画の中で、この作品は見事な構図を示し、同じシリーズの「橋立雨中雷」とともにその才能を発揮した代表作です。

Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s “Urami Waterfall at Nikko” is one of a series of eight untitled landscape prints. Based on the style and the characteristics of the signature, it is believed that it was designed by Kuniyoshi around 1840. As for the year of publication, further research is needed but it seems that the print was only published posthumously in the late Meiji period. Among the artist's landscape prints - a genre Kuniyoshi rarely tackled - “Urami Waterfall at Nikko”, along with “Ama no Hashidate in Rain and Lightning” from the same series, stands as a beautiful artwork with excellent composition that showcases his talent, and leaves a lasting impression. 

La « Cascade d’Urami à Nikko » d’Utagawa Kuniyoshi fait partie d’une série, sans titre, de huit estampes de paysages. D'après le style de l'œuvre et les caractéristiques de la signature on estime qu'elle a été dessinée par Kuniyoshi vers 1840, pour être seulement publiée à titre posthume vers la fin de l’ère Meiji. Parmi les estampes de paysages – un genre que Kuniyoshi abordait très rarement –, cette œuvre à la composition réussie, tout comme « Ama no Hashidate sous la pluie et l’orage » de la même série, met une fois de plus en valeur le talent de Kuniyoshi.
