Satô Tadanobu, in the armor of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, overthrowing the buddhist monk Yokogawa Kakuhan in the snow by a waterfall, in the Yoshino mountains.
Kuniyoshi created two series of eight prints called "Eight Views of the Military Brilliance" (Yôbu Hakkei) in 1836 and 1852, which were inspired by the traditional theme of Chinese landscape painting, "The Eight Views of Xiaoxiang". This print is from the former series, and follows the theme of "the evening snow". Published by Tsuru-ya Kiyemon.
